Decorating the fireplace mantel is probably one of the warmest and most festive places in your home to decorate. Stockings are hung, chestnuts are roasted and the crackling of a warm fire on a cold night fill the room with comfort and Christmas cheer. The fireplace is typically the focal point in any room but it really comes alive when it is decorated with bundles of spruce, red and green ribbon, scented candles and any thing glitzy. I found some inspiration that you can use to decorate your mantel and if you don't have a fireplace, the same decorations can be displayed on shelves, bookcases and tables.

Christmas Mantel Inspiration

Greenery and Gold

Combine an overabundance of pine or spruce bundles with gold ribbon, pine cones and metallic ornaments for a flashy yet festive mantel display. It creates a huge statement which you simply cannot take your eyes off of. Different types of ribbon and ornaments can be used to work within your colour palette or theme.

If you want a simple and natural mantel display choose only fresh greens. This will not only be a subtler approach to Christmas decorations but it will fill your home with the beautiful smell of pine trees.

Colourful Tradition

Stick to the traditional colours of red and green but choose brighter hues . This is a fun and slightly safe alternative to a traditional Christmas.

Antique toys are used as whimsical decorations to create a youthful atmosphere. It is fun and unique and your guests will reminisce back to when they were children.

Winter Wonderland

White decorations, fake snow and winter elements create a winter wonderland right in your home. Add glittered or gilded ornaments for a pretty monochromatic display. You will be able to enjoy the snow without being cold.

Word of the Day: Baubles

Shiny trinkets and ornaments traditionally made from glass used as Christmas decorations.
