Valentines is now only five days away. If you haven't scheduled your flower arrangement or booked a dinner reservation you may want to do that now! Time is running out and if you don't act fast you may just be spending the night in the dog house.
While this day can be a lot of fun for some people it is not a holiday I plan on celebrating. Its a Hallmark holiday and I believe love should be celebrated everyday. Even though I don't plan on going out to dinner or buying flowers I do plan on decorating. I just could not resist the pretty pinks and vibrant reds.
Easy DIY Valentines Pom Poms
- Tissue paper
- Yarn or string
This is a very easy and quick craft that can be made for very little but the end result is stunning. I think I spent approximately $2.00 on materials and could probably make 4 or 5 in total.
What to do
Start by layering 6-10 rectangular pieces of tissue paper. The more layers you have the fuller the pom pom will be. Wanting two different colours I layered 2 pieces of light pink, 5 pieces of dark pink and then 2 more light pink. You will want to make sure that all the sheets are lined up as close as possible to create an even pom pom.
Next, fold the tissue paper back and forth on itself to create an accordion and then tie one end of a long piece of yarn in the center (the longer end of the yarn can be used to hang it from the ceiling). I created folds that were approximately 1 inch wide but you could do larger or smaller folds. Don't be concerned about it being perfect because you wont be able to see mistakes once complete. Before unfolding the pom pom you can cut a point or round the end to create a different appearance.
You will want to carefully pull each sheet of tissue away from each other until all pieces are separated.
I made two different pom poms. The one on the right was cut with a point where the one on the left was left uncut.
