Last fall I had made a fabric leaf bowl with faux Autumn leaves and fabric stiffener. It turned out really well and ever since then I have wanted to try the same technique with fabric flower petals. Easter is fast approaching so its the perfect time to make this bowl with pretty pastel purple and pink tulips. I can even fill it with chocolate crème eggs and mini eggs...mmm my favourite.

Materials

  • Faux Fabric tulips or flower of your choice
  • Fabric stiffener
  • Bowl
  • Plastic wrap
  • Newspaper or cardboard to catch drips
  • Scissors

You will want to pull apart the flowers and separate the petals from the stem. I had to cut the base of each petal as they were all attached together as one.

Once you have your petals ready you can then prepare your bowl by covering the outside with plastic wrap. This will help you remove the bowl once its dry and keep the mess to a minimum.

Shake your fabric stiffener and pour into a shallow container. You wont need very much as its very thin and it seems to go quite far. Next, submerse each petal so that its completely saturated and then squeeze out the excess. Start covering your bowl starting in the center and working your way outwards. Create a pattern or randomly apply petals in any way that you like.

Dry overnight or longer. Mine dried for 24 hours but could have used longer because it was still a little wet on the bottom.

You can see the wet fabric stiffener at the bottom but it will turn clear once completely dry. I might jazz up this bowl with some glitter.

Happy Crafting!
